A magical market in the dog-friendly precinct of Sea Point.

Mojo means a magic charm, talisman, or spell!

Sea Point is one of the most dog-friendly suburbs in Cape Town. After all, it has the Promenade where dog owners and their beloveds gather at all times of the day for play dates or walks along the scenic Atlantic coast while lapping up the fresh ocean breeze.

So when you’ve met up with your friends and the pooches are exhausted from their social session, why not head to the magical, pet friendly Mojo Market for a meal, dessert, or even a live show?

The market is situated adjacent to the Mojo Hotel, on Regent Road, a stone’s throw away from the Sea Point Pavilion Swimming Pool. It is open seven days a week and entrance is free.

There are lots of stalls in the warehouse set up, with sufficient seating on two levels to accommodate patrons who want to enjoy a sports match on one of the plethora of screens while partaking in the exuberant communal experience or watching local talent performing live music shows every, single night during the week and multiple timeslots on weekends. It’s best to consult their website for the upcoming lineup.

They have five unique bars – The Mojo Bar, Beer Bar, The Other Bar, Spirits Bar, and Cocktail Bar to ensure your drink requirements are satisfied. There is also amazing food on offer, ranging from Poke bowls to burgers, shawarmas, an oyster and mussel bar, Mexican and Indian cuisine, and even a vegan joint. Most of the food places are halal-friendly.

And that’s not all, they have an array of desserts to put any sweet tooth craving to bed. You can choose from Marcel’s frozen yogurt, freshly made Gelato, or rolled ice cream from Sweet Revenge. Kunafa House offers Middle Eastern desserts, including a variety of Baklava and Kunafa, which is made with shredded phyllo pastry soaked in sweet syrup and layered with clotted cream or nuts.

I highly recommend the Mfraling Gorgeous Nuts stand. They offer free testers, and I had a chocolate-covered cashew nut while I was browsing around the market and went back to get a stash cause it was that good. The lady behind the counter had me try all the different flavours of covered cashew nuts, including lemon and strawberry. They also sell Belgium chocolates, Turkish Delight, and fudge.

We popped into the market on a Saturday morning just after 10 am hoping to get some breakfast after our walk on the Prom but only a few stalls were just opening up. We ended up going back again the following week after 6 pm and the electricity had just gone out due to load shedding.

The plus side is that the market still operates during load shedding because they have generators. There was a live band playing and the place was packed to the rafters. If you are taking your dog during the evening, it does get quite noisy and bustling, so ensure your pet will be okay in this type of environment. There are quite a few dog bowls available where your pooch can quench its thirst. So next time you’re in the area, how about finding your Mojo at the Market?
